Aftermarket parts and subsystems by John Titus
These are modifications that do not require "Titus" parts, but were brought into being by John.
Closed Cooling Recovery System
closed coolant recovery system (with plastic tank that can be snapped in and out of place to get to the fuses). This mod just uses an off-the-shelf Moroso water filler neck with some long 7mm screws, but it really helps with access back there. The only modification is you need to plug the hose that used to go from the water tank to the water pump cover. I just tapped the inside of the cover to take a 1/4 inch pipe plug.
Water-pump seal change
A water pump modification that uses a PacSeal 601 seal in place of the expensive and unreliable MKI water pump seals. Unfortunately, this modification can only be done when the engine is out for overhaul or some other work because you need to trim one surface on the jackshaft slightly (i.e. in a lathe). Once the mod is done, you can still go back to the MKI seal if you ever want to.
Gear Reduction Starter
See Starter for background.
- Power Consumption: 1.4 kW
- Gear train: OSGR (offset gear reduction)
- Mass: 5 Kilos (almost 10 Kilos less than Ducellier 6213 Starter).
- Torque: 160 Ft-lbs (est.)
- Heat Shield
This starter is based on a Nippon-Denso OSGR design and shares all common wear parts (solenoid, motor, brushes, clutch, gears) with literally millions of starters currently used in Toyota, Subaru, Honda, and Nissan cars and trucks, so the prospect for repair parts being available in the future is very good.
The OSGR design is also much less sensitive to cranking on a low battery (which means fewer ruined armatures than the direct drive Ducellier)
